The Jeep Grand Cherokee stands as a true symbol of robustness and luxury in the mid-size SUV segment. But how does it actually perform on the road? Our professionals put it to the test for you! Join us for this road test from our Duclos dealership in Longueuil.
Before starting the test drive, we headed to the inventory, where several trims are available: Altitude, Limited, Overland, Summit... we certainly weren't short of choices! Moreover, the variety of the Jeep model range is one of its strengths, truly offering something for everyone. Whether you opt for a model from inventory or a custom configuration, the list of trims is extensive.
For our part, we decided to indulge ourselves with the cream of the crop: a splendid Summit Reserve!
Approaching the Grand Cherokees, one could not help but admire their stature. This SUV has a commanding presence, no matter the trim or color!
Our Summit Reserve was equipped with 21-inch dynamic design wheels in granite crystal color, adding to a high ground clearance suggesting its off-road capabilities. Platinum trimmings adorned the vehicle, and the contrasting black roof gave it a distinctive style.
We used the remote starter to start it up and test the hands-free power liftgate. A simple motion of the foot under the tailgate allowed us to open it effortlessly, revealing a generous space: the Grand Cherokee's trunk offers no less than 1,068 liters of space!
Entering the cabin, one is immediately struck by the quality of the materials used and the attention to details. For our model, the seats are covered in Palermo leather, while Nappa leather covers the interior of the doors. Oak trim and even touches of wood on the steering wheel add to the prestige of this highly refined interior.
At first glance, one also notices the practical layout of the 10.1-inch central screen, incorporating the latest Uconnect 5 infotainment system. My passenger and I connected to it effortlessly.
We took a seat in the rear to test the comfort, and it is just as satisfying. Whether you have young children or plan outdoor outings with your 6-foot friends, the cabin is spacious and clearances are generous enough to provide good comfort for all.
Before starting, I adjust my seat and lumbar support using the 12 electric adjustments and take a moment to personalize the digital display of the driver (10.25 inches) to display navigation and audio system information.
I turn the key, and the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine awakens. I place my hands on the leather-wrapped steering wheel and we leave the parking lot. Within the first few minutes, I am impressed by how maneuverable this vehicle is despite its size!
We enter the highway for our first accelerations. The standard V6 of the Grand Cherokee offers a generous output of 293 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. While one cannot expect sports car performance from a vehicle of this size, its road handling characteristics impresses with stability, precise steering, and an amazing sense of control at the wheel.
The Quadra-Lift suspension system is very effective at absorbing road imperfections, hence offering a smooth ride.
Add to that excellent sound insulation and optimal visibility, and you will love this ultra-reassuring SUV!
For those seeking a more sporty driving experience, a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 is available with the Grand Cherokee L for 357 horsepower, and the plug-in hybrid version also offers quicker accelerations with its 375 horsepower.

As we head towards Mont Saint-Bruno to test the vehicle's off-road capabilities, I activate the adaptive cruise control. The system maintains a safe distance from the vehicle ahead, slowing down and speeding up smoothly. The road sign recognition system is also a useful addition.
From the outset, the Uconnect 5 system proved to be very intuitive to use, especially for activating the navigation system and connecting to our music playlist. Moreover, the McIntosh audio system fills the cabin with rich sound, offering an immersive experience with a 950 W amplifier.
I put the voice command to the test, asking the navigation system to find us a coffee on our route. Within seconds, the screen displays several options and I easily select the one that suits me.
We have said it, the Grand Cherokee offers a stable and reassuring ride on the highway and precise steering in town. But what about its off-road performance?
The Summit Reserve is equipped with the Quadra-Drive II 4x4 system with an electronic rear locking differential, as well as the Jeep Selec-Terrain traction management system. Several modes are available to us depending on the driving situation encountered: auto, sport, rock, snow, or mud/sand.
Our ride on the South Shore allowed us to encounter various road conditions and to put it to the test. Gravel trails are common when leaving the city, and its Quadra-Lift suspension proved to be quite up to the task of absorbing shocks.
As winter has not yet arrived, we did not have the opportunity to test it in the snow, but we were impressed by its stability in muddier and rockier zones. There is no doubt that it will also make the perfect road companion to get you out of a snowbank or drive confidently on icy roads.
The four-wheel drive distributes power where it's needed to overcome obstacles with ease. We take advantage of this moment away from the city to take a breath of fresh air by opening the two-panel CommandView panoramic roof, which is easily activated.
After our escapade, night begins to fall, and the LED headlights provide us with exemplary visibility.
We take the opportunity to test the night vision system, which allows us to see all obstacles in an area where streetlights are rarer. While we have not had the opportunity to test all the safety features, the list is long to help you drive safely:
And now, back to Duclos Longueuil Chrysler! On our way back, I activate the massage function and seat heating and savor these last moments in the luxury SUV.
The 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee successfully combines luxury, comfort, off-road capabilities, and advanced technologies into a particularly attractive package. We appreciated the stability it provided us in all road conditions as well as its agility when we ventured off the paved roads.
The onboard space is generous and comfortable, with seats offering numerous adjustments and high-quality materials. Certainly, the price for a Summit Reserve is substantially high for some drivers, but you can easily find a more affordable version among the inventory.
