When hauling a fifth wheel, a yacht or a horse trailer, the question is not if a pickup is capable of towing heavy loads… of course it can! The question is, rather, what type of towing capacity do you actually need? Given that purchasing a truck is a significant expense, it is important to assess your needs properly before purchasing a full-size truck by asking yourself the right questions and making the right calculations.

Elements to take into consideration

Before purchasing your pickup, your representative can help you establish which vehicle is best suited for you, according to your towing needs. The first thing that must be determined is the overall weight of your vehicle and your trailer. Moreover, you should know that there are also other important aspects that need to be considered, like:

• The axle ratio;

• The size of the cab;
• The length of the bed.

For example: a RAM 1500 will be ideal to carry a boat, a regular caravan, an ATV, a fishing boat or snowmobiles. A RAM 2500 or 3500 will be perfect if you need to tow very heavy loads like a horse trailer or large recreational vehicles. With a fifth wheel hitch or a gooseneck trailer hitch you'll be able to tow even heavier loads.

There are different types of trailer hitches with different maximum towing capacities. Here they are:

• Class 1 = 2,000 pounds (907 kg);
• Class 2 = 3,500 pounds (1,588 kg);
• Class 3 = 12,000 pounds (5,443 kg);
• Class 4 = 14,000 pounds (6,350 kg);
• Class 5 = 23,000 pounds (10,433 kg).

The two other determining factors for your pickup's towing capacity is the size of the cab and the bed length. A smaller cab will allow you to tow heavier loads than with a larger cab. And since a shorter bed length translates into a lighter weight compared to a longer bed, it will also allow you to tow a heavier load.

However, should you have to tow a fifth wheel or a gooseneck trailer, a longer bed will probably be necessary given that you will need more space for turning.

A Split-Screen Surveillance System for Reverse Maneuvers

Thanks to this system, you can maneuver backwards without any problem and, mostly, without anyone's help other than your own. This is extremely practical for narrow or tight spaces.

Trailer Reverse Steering Control (TRSC)

This system really makes your life easier when backing up with your trailer by simply using the direction knob which is located on your RAM's center console, allowing you to easily control your trailer's direction, given that the system controls the truck's steering wheel.

2025 RAM 1500 Engines

With this new model year, drivers will say goodbye to the 6.4 L V8 HEMI and the diesel engine. Instead, RAM introduces new and more powerful Hurricane engines - a lineup of 6-cylinder 3 L engines, available in a standard and a high-performance version, maximizing power in the Limited, Longhorn, and Tungsten trims.

The V6 Pentastar remains the entry-level engine but has enhanced capabilities. Here are the three engines offered:

2025 Heavy Duty RAM Engines

While the RAM 1500 2025 has introduced significant mechanical changes, various rumors suggest that the RAM 2500 and 3500 might retain current engines, possibly adding a more modern 8-speed automatic transmission named "ZF PowerLine" or "PowerLine 8AT", and a higher-performance Cummins diesel engine.

This could potentially challenge Ford with a torque around 1,200 lb-ft, and a towing capacity of 40,000 lbs or more? More answers are coming, but one thing is certain: the manufacturer is committed to staying on top, and these powerhouses will return with even more power than before.
